Who is your Avatar?

Do you know who your online Avatar is?  This is so critical for your online marketing efforts yet very few of us actually stop and think about this.  Let me show you why you need one and how to create your Avatar in order to maximize your results!
I looked up the definition of Avatar and this is what came back

  1. HINDUISM- a manifestation of a deity or released soul in bodily form on earth; an incarnate divine teacher.
  2. COMPUTING – an icon or figure representing a particular person in computer games, Internet forums, etc.

So why am I telling you this? Have I gone nuts?  Well almost, but here is the truth!  Everyday I look around and see so many misdirected marketing messages that vary widely and reflect a scatter gun approach.  I see people with 10,000 Facebook likes just posting and posting and posting, with extremely low rates of engagement and no direct message!

Why?  Well they don’t have an Avatar that is why!

The role of the Avatar in the context of your marketing campaign is to help you define THE ideal customer for you.  Think of the best customer you have ever worked with or few that you have worked with.  The ones you got on the best with, the one which you had the best results with and the one that appreciated you the most.  They got it and you got it!

Well that is your Avatar and if there are clients out there that you haven’t been able to capture but you know exist and you know need your product or service, then add their characteristics to your Avatar too.

So your Avatar becomes your marketing deity!  Everything you do and create online is then directed straight at that Avatar.  Create a picture of it in your mind and address all his / her hot buttons in every single one of your messages.

When you take up this approach it is no longer about just chasing leads online and making money, but addressing peoples needs FIRST.  When you are addressing your Avatar’s hot buttons and aiming to help them and address their needs, then the leads and profits will flow.

All of a sudden you won’t be posting just for the sake of posting, but only posting what you need to.  With your Avatar firmly in your mind’s eye and picturing yourself helping him / her with your content, your posts will be laser like in their focus and hit the target every single time.

This done consistently over time will equal a huge WIN for you.

So try this approach:

  1. Create an Avatar image in your mind of the perfect client / customer and give it a name if you wish!
  2. What is it that they need? NOT NOT NOT what is it that you’re trying to sell.  But what do THEY need?
  3. What qualities about them is it that you like and makes you the ideal vendor for them?
  4. What are all their hot buttons you need to address?
  5. Every post, pitch and product / service you create should be aimed specifically at addressing your Avatar’s needs and hot buttons.  Not everyone’s needs, just that of your Avatar.

So go create, have fun and nail it.
